World Wide News Shortage
World Wide News Shortage!
(Oh Noes)
That's right! For the past week there's been a shortage of news across the entire Globe. New regulations brought in by the UN (United Nations) state that news must be 100% factual or it must not, in any form, be released to the public. After much procrastinating the UN decided on these new regulations to limit the amount of 'potentially harmful' news.
It has been speculated that the snap-decision was influenced by George W. Bush and Donald H. Rumsfeld in an effort to halt the spread of anti-Bush news reports such as those stating his war in Iraq was simply to gain control of the nation's oil. And, to further strengthen George's regime, a clause in the new regulations states that "all governmental broadcasts are to be considered 100% factual and may be presented without limitation" (Sec. F, Para. 7, Line 234).
But, as is to be expected, this hasn't stopped news giant, News Corp, from spreading it's lies! Network news shows are watched by elderly and politically inclined people all over the world and losing this audience could, it has been estimated, cost News Corp up to $40 Billion in just one week.

Danger, Will Robinson!
"A Robot in Every Home"
- - - - - 30 companies, 1000 scientists - - - - -
South Korea plans to have robots go into mass production by 2007. Yes, that's right, robots in every South Korean home by 2015-2020. Persocons, Maverick. Persocons. At first these robots are expected to be able to relay messages to parents, teach children English and sing and dance for them when they are bored, guide customers at post offices or patrol public areas searching for intruders and transmitting images to monitoring centers. Or are they going to be Robocops?
"Yujin Robot started developing prototypes in 2004 and has sold 100, mostly to universities and research institutes." Yujin Robots is the "leader in making small, $500 robots that move around the house using sensors, vacuuming or sweeping. They have become popular gifts for newlyweds."
Robots as mentioned in the first paragraph have already begun being tested. Late last year these robots were given to 64 households and 2 post offices and, in October this year, a futher 650 houses and 20 public venues will be recieving robots.
The implications of having robots capable of handling clerical duties, household duties, and even transportation are huge - many people will be out of a job. But what does this mean? If we don't have to pay people to work, we'll be getting richer and soon (in a hundred or so years) money will become worthless - robots will do everything from farming and harvesting to constructing buildings and machinery - leaving people to persue knowledge and spiritual clarification. At least, that's one possibilty.
Where will we be in 50 years?
Check out the full story!

Hypersonic Jets
Mega-Hypersonic Uber-fast Jet Engines of Doom!
- - - - New Jet Engine techonology to revolutionise intercontinental travel - - - -
Scheduled for test-flight over Australia today was the new hypersonic scramjet engine known as "Hyshot III." This test-flight is actually more like a test-crash. The Hyshot III engine will be launched by a rocket owned by the University of Queensland and let go. Once at the right speed, which will be at an altituded of about 35km, the Hyshot III will beging to function. The engine will combust it's Hydrogen fuel using heat from the air being compressed as it falls to Earth. Once the reaction begins, the Hyshot III will take only 6 seconds to reach the ground - at which time it will crash. (Kaboom?)

...It could pave the way for ultrafast, intercontinental air travel, and substantially cut the cost of putting small payloads into space.
The Hyshot tests will bring the idea of a commercial scramjet one step closer to reality.
In the first instance these would probably be used to launch satellites into low earth orbit but many have speculated that they could also allow passenger airlines to fly between London and Sydney in just 2 hours.
Two hours? It takes 3-4 hours to go from Sydney to Melbourne in a 747 at present. And we thought the world was small already! Now we'll be able to go to our friends in other countries and say: "Hey, I'll see you in an hour and a half!"
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
If today's test is successful, another test is to be made four days later of another Hyshot engine (each costing millions) designed by the JAXA (Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency). This test will be followed by the test of another engine, designed by the Australian DSTO (Defence Science and Technology Organisation), in June.
So, say 'Hello' to the future - the Mega-Hypersonic Uber-fast Jet Engine of Doom is closer than you think.

Admin Complaints
Admin Complaints
Ok Guys, I'm sick of hearing all these complaints about admin behaviour, yet when we review the logs and discuss it with others who were there (not just admins) they tell us what actually happened (which is usually nothing like what you say).
If you have a GENUINE complaint about an admin, then please send me an email detailing what, when, how, who and include as much relevant detail as you can, along with evidential support (ie screenshots and demos).
Note that in the future, any complaints about admin behaviour that is NOT submitted in this fashion will be deleted without warning. I'm sick of ranting on the forums guys, enough is enough.

Now you see me, now you don't.
"Dude, where's your computer?!"
"It's right there, man!"
- - The worlds first completely transperent transistor - -
The fundamental building block for electronics, the transistor, has been made invisible by a group of scientists at Oxford State University lead by Electrical Engineering professor John Wager. With further developement, this technology could soon increase the performance of LCD's and solar panels, turn your windows into a multitude of devices, or it could simply become the next best way to lose your mobile phone - the possibilites for this scratch resistant, flexible and cheap are many.
Wager's next goal is to create worlds first transperant simple integrated circuit, a ring oscillator. After succeeding in doing this, "I think people will realize this technology is ready for prime time," Wager said. The research group has initiated an exclusive licensing agreement with Hewlett-Packard Co. and is working with the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute to help commercialise the research.
It's only a matter of time before they succeed in one form or another, so keep your eye out for the new Hewlett-Packard clear electronics range.

WE ARE NOT IDIOTS
Here's an announcement from MeriX and Maverick.
Please read through all of this if you really care about Custom-X (CX)
This message has not been easy for either of us to write. This comes at the end of a very successful SNL, but these issues have been long standing. We feel the community doesn't like us, this isn't just because recent events.
There have been several events since august last year when we started this crusade. Most of these events have involved us being lied in one way or another. this obviously has changed our judgement and attitudes on the way we handle situations and the way we view our audience, and not necessarily for the better. we would like to say we take the time with every problem that comes to us to deal with it fairly and diplomatically. Unfortunately we haven't always been able to take the higher moral ground when we receive second hand, inconsistent, or even simply incorrect information. Now we can live with this sort of bad information. But when we have someone who outright lies to us, that's not something we can live with.
It doesn't help us sleep at night, and we've tolerated the lies until now, because bringing them up wouldn't help CX grow.
But now, we really are sick and tired of being lied to, and its going to stop. Maverick spends about 2 hours a weekday, and at least 8 hours a weekend on CX duties (not including playtime). And MeriX spends an hour a day on the web based content. If any of our players can find that amount of time to have these sorts of responsibilities in your schedule, and will put up with being lied to by people who enjoy your efforts, I'd be surprised.
I know we frequently hold ourselves above the law in-game, but this is above and beyond that. The reasons for why are not obvious at first, but it is very hard to control 20+ 13-18 year old teens. Their mothers have a hard enough time, and quite simply, we don't care as much about them as their mothers do.
We've had our fair share of private disgraces with players and admins. We've hushed them up as there was no real point to start parading their heads around on spikes in front of their peers. That amnesty is over. At CX we are proud of the fact we don't edit or delete our users posts (except for forum cleanliness reasons). As far as we know we're one of the only gaming forums that does this. We'd like to keep this up, but there is a line that has been crossed too many times. And one more time could just be one too many for us.
Since CX has started we, and you, may have noticed that the quality of game play in Australia has undoubtedly improved. We try to be humble, but we think this is in-part because of CX. We can't think of anyone who would have dedicated the time, money, effort, and resources to increasing the standard of NS in Australia, with aaNet's help.
With the new server and the size that CX will grow, we are hoping to keep the same close-knit community we have strived to achieve. But this is not helped by the 1% that destroy it for everyone else. We want CX to be the best gaming experience you can have. Now this is where we normally say how you can make a difference or how you can fight terrorism but in all reality we don't have the time to tell you all about that, or make a flashy marketing campaign to convince you to start dobbing in the evil-doers. What we ARE going to tell you to do is ask of you three things
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
1. - Help us find the people who have a problem with us and try and resolve it or tell us about it. No point in these issues festering in the dark
2. - Think about it before you say it. Make sure you know what you're saying is the truth. Propagating lies doesn't help anyone, including yourself.
3. - We'd like a little more respect. We think the best reason for this is the fact that we read the server logs, and know what people are saying about us. It's not hard to find, and it really doesn't feel good when we read it.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Now what we are saying might sound a little harsh, but almost everything you see has had one of us put effort into it. We don't get any money out of this and very rarely a thanks, but the problems it creates for us are hurtful and expensive. We wish we didn't have to get you to change your opinion on us, but we really have found it hard lately to build up the motivation to work on CX.
Why would you do these three things we ask? Because the backdoor deals and the black market in rumors, adversely affect you. If you see something in the community that you think is wrong, tell us. This isn't just about someone using a GL in MVM, this is about something more serious and more lasting in it's detrimental affects to the community.
Be alert, but not alarmed.

Console Combat
Console Combat
Xbox 360 vs. Playstation 3
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Krissy writes:
So heres how its stands at the moment.
Xbox 360
Overall, I think it has nice design; interchangeable face plates - which is a lot better than those damn stickers and things you could buy for xbox - makes customization a lot easier, quite user friendly - i.e. no cords to mess around with, which was annoying to most, I know it was for me. At the end of the day, very functional and it looks good.
Now the hardware:
1MB L2 cache, Custom IBM PowerPC CPU 3.2GHz, 22.4GB/s main memory bandwidth, 256GB/s to eDRAM, 21.6GB/s FSB
10MB embedded video memory
500MHz graphics core clock speed - the graphics processor is a custom ATI Processor
Video memory is 512 UMA shared with the CPU
Supports up to 4 controllers
Supports 480p,480i,720p, 1080i
Drive can read DVD-Video, DVD-ROM, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, CD-DA, CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, WMA CD, MP3 CD, JPEG Photo CD, and game format is dual layer DVD.
Also 802.11 A/B/G Wi-Fi ready, adapter not included integrated communications.
Bored yet? Well theres still more. Also there is talk that you can use your iPod through it, so maybe that why we have USB 2.0, as well as 2 Memory Slots, Ethernet Port (RJ45). But this has to be my favorite part, 20GB Removable Hard Drive. I hated having to take apart my xbox to put in a bigger hard drive simply because of warranty and things now this will make it easier to upgrade your hard drive with out making the warranty void, THANK GOD. We also can still play xbox games so they havent been written off altogether.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Playstation 3
I really like the look of Playstation 3 - its stylish, and its form is very very nice. Again, there are no cords, which is nice for easier game play but I think that its design will make it fit in most homes, its set the standard. And it has a whopping 7 controller capacity, being at home has never been so good.
The hardware:
500MHz core clock speed
RSX "Reality Synthesizer"
256MB video memory
480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, resolution
Compatible with CR-ROM, CDR+W, DVD, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R, Blu-ray BD-ROM game format (which is going to be interesting when it concerns the price of games)
802.11 B/G Wi-Fi Bluetooth 2.0 integrated communications
Ethernet (RJ45), 6 USB 2.0, CF Slot (Type I, II)
SD Slot (Regular, Compact), Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo
1 x Optical Audio other connectors
2.5in Removable Hard Drive (the capacity for this is unknown)
512KB L2 cache, 256P KB per SPE, Cell processor 3.2GHz, 25.6GB/s main memory bandwidth
22.4GB/s video memory bandwidth.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
And there you have it. Where one may not be so good the other is guarantied to excel, either way you want to go youll end up with a great gamming console. And anyways there is always Nintendo Revolution.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Peace to all Consoles!
